This Boccalino set consists of four handled drinking cups and a matching jug. Completely handmade with bottom mark, see photos. The original hand-painted sticker is still on 2 pieces.
No chipped paint, the glaze and painting are perfect. The brown stripes in some jugs are inside the glaze.
These were originally made from clay in the village of Noranco. The boccalini were made by hand in the canton of Ticino and individually painted. Today, the boccalini sold in Ticino come from the large Italian ceramic factories.
Info: The boccalino (as this wine jug is called in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, Ticino) has a long history. In the 1950s, the ceramic jug was a popular souvenir and advertising motif for the tourist region of Ticino. The bulbous vessel with a foot, handle and beak is usually painted with ring-shaped bands, wine or Ticino motifs such as famous monuments. Traditionally, simple Merlot and the Ticino country wine Nostrano are drunk from the boccalini.
The boccalino is not really suitable for a higher quality wine. The latter cannot develop properly in it. Nostalgics can use the Boccalino for red wine if they want to dream of times gone by in a grotto, a hut or a chalet or simply enjoy a nice, cozy evening at home.
Our drinking jugs have 3 x the motif Lavertezzo, Valle Verzasca, Ticino - Double Arch Stone Bridge at Ponte Dei Salti
and 3 x the village square Sonogno, the rearmost village in Valle Verzasca - almost at the end of the world.
Height 10 cm, 2 dl
As they are hand-painted, although they have the same motif, they are all slightly different.
The large wine jug also has the motif of Lavertezzo and flower decoration has a height of 18 cm and fits 1 liter.
